When I can see Skye, I know it’s a good day; right across the Minch to Harris is a bonus, but usually any detail is lost in the blue haze.
A few days ago, I stepped out of my front door and was thrilled beyond words – there in the distance, was a crystal clear view of the Shiant Islands, glowing in the morning sun, their cliffs delineated sharply in the light. Needless to say, I ran for my camera and then headed up the hill to get an even better view of these islands, which are at least 10 nautical miles away, maybe more. (It is 15 miles from here across the Inner Sound to the north shore of Skye.)
This past week, here in Wester Ross, we’ve been treated to some exceptionally bright, clear days with unbelievably blue skies and a crispness like I’ve rarely seen. Sure, it’s been cold, but this is such a welcome tonic after the storms we’ve all had to endure lately.
