October Light

P1090481This afternoon, as I walked from my studio over to the house, I glanced out to sea, as usual. Catching a glimpse of a dramatic shaft of sunlight piercing the dark, low cloud over the Inner Sound, I knew we were in for a treat. I jumped into the car with my camera and headed south along the shore road.

DSC_9303Winding its way like the thinnest of ribbons along the bleak, steep shoreline of peatbog and heather, the road curls up and over the crest of the headland.

But the real drama lies off to the right, this dance of light and vapour over sea, constantly folding and unfolding, revealing and then withdrawing, withholding once again, always teasing you.
